Corris Mine Explorers Access Statement.
Safely plan your visit at Corris Mine Explorers, one of the best things to do in Mid Wales.
Our underground mine exploration takes you deep beneath the mountains of southern Snowdonia and into a virtually untouched former Welsh slate mine. Explorers will be accompanied at all times by a qualified guide.
Capabilities
Due to the nature of the tour, this experience is not suitable for those with walking difficulties. All visitors must be able to walk on uneven ground unaided for ½ a mile. There are no places to sit down on the tour, visitors must be able to always remain with the group. We ask that visitors allow 1.5 hours for their exploration. Explorers climb a small hill to access the mine entrance- the guide will assess your capabilities at this point and you may be refused entry for safety reasons if the guide feels you are unable to complete the tour.
Age
Corris Mine Explorers is only suitable for visitors aged 8+
Dogs
We do not allow dogs into the underground workings of the Braich Goch slate mine. This is primarily for the safety of the dog. If you have a registered Guide Dog please contact reception before making your booking.
Conditions
The mine is a consistent 8°C all year round regardless of the weather outside. We ask that all visitors dress appropriately.
The mine is relatively untouched since it was left by the miners in the 1970s therefore the pathways are uneven. We ask visitors to wear suitable footwear.
During periods of heavy rainfall, a small waterfall can form over the mine entrance, and water levels inside the mine may reach levels that will make it necessary to wear wellies – which we can provide. We ask that visitors bring socks with them. This area during these periods can be slippery, your guide will assist you, however all visitors must be steady on their feet to complete the tour.
Equipment.
All explorers will be issued with a torch and a hard hat. The hard hat must be worn at all times.
