A group clipped to safety lines looking at one of the massive chambers in Braich Goch slate mine [+]
Corris Mine Explorers is an activity and an attraction.
To enjoy this experience you must be mentally and physically well. You must be capable of walking at a steady pace throughout the visit, although there will be regular stops to examine and appreciate the surroundings.
Before you enter the old slate mine, you will be equipped with a helmet, cap lamp, lamp belt and safety clips.
Mine exploring is a little like caving, but on your exploration anything other than walking is optional [+]
The exploration involves a walk through dark, damp tunnels. For most of your visit you will be able to walk upright. There are two optional sections on the half day exploration where you may need to crawl through an opening in the mine and climb up a section of slate – but this all adds to the fun. In these parts of the mine, you are always attached to safety ropes, using the safety clips provided.
The routes vary and the guide adjusts the visit to suit your capabilities and preferences. Anything which involves more than just walking through the mine workings is optional.
You should be aware that there are no toilet facilities underground.
